CANADIAN VISITOR ARRIVALS INCREASE IN OCTOBER 2014

We are pleased to report a 26.3% increase in the number of Canadian visitors to Japan in October this year.  Japan welcomed 17,700 Canadians in October 2014, as compared to 14,011 in October 2013. This resulted in an overall increase of 18.9% since the beginning of 2014; Japan received 149,000 visitors from January to October 2014 compared to 125,308 visitors during the same period in 2013.

ANA BECOMES THE FIRST UNESCO SUPPORTER

It has been announced that All Nippon Airways will become the world's first supporter of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). As a supporter, ANA will promote UNESCO by displaying the UNESCO logo on all their aircraft flying on international routes. Proceeds from the in-flight sale of UNESCO items, including unique inden purses, will be donated to UNESCO and ANA passengers will be able to donate their air miles to the National Federation of UNESCO Associations in Japan until March 31st, 2015. JAL WINS FUTURE TRAVEL EXPERIENCE AWARD

Japan Airlines has received the Future Travel Experience award in the "Best Initiative at the Gate" category at Future Travel Experience Global 2014.  The award recognizes forward thinking for improvements to services at the boarding gate. It was awarded to JAL for their demonstration test of their iBeacons and smart watches at Tokyo Haneda Airport in July.  iBeacons were installed at each boarding gate in Domestic Terminal 1 and were used to pinpoint the location of JAL's boarding gate staff.  Smartwatches helped gate staff provide passengers with the most up-to-date information.

NTT COMMUNICATIONS PREPAID SIM FOR 7 DAYS

NTT Communications has expanded their "Prepaid SIM for JAPAN" service to include a new 7-day plan. Visitors can enjoy up to 100 MB of data per day nationwide for JPY 2,980.  The 7-Day and 14-Day "Prepaid SIM for Japan" cards can be purchased online prior to your arrival in Japan or at various airports, hotels, and Yodobashi Camera stores upon arrival.

SEVEN BANK ATM NAVIGATION

Seven Bank has rolled out their new "Japan ATM Navigation" app to help you find the nearest Seven Bank ATM.  The app will display an easy-to-follow route in map view or overlay text with graphics over a physical view using a new Augmented Reality function. The Augmented Reality guide is even available without internet access.

SONY SOUND PLANETARIUM 2014

Experience Sony's high-end audio equipment with Sound Planetarium, which combines high-resolution music with a projected image of a starry sky.  The Sound Planetarium will project millions of glittering stars while playing a selection of musical pieces from popular Japanese artists (L'Arc-en-Ciel, Fumiya Fujii, UNICORN, and Ken Hirai) and Michael Jackson's "Love Never Felt So Good" until December 25th (11 AM to 7 PM).  The event will be held at OPUS on the 8th floor of the Sony building in Ginza, Tokyo.

JATA TOURISM EXPO JAPAN 2014

The very first JATA Tourism Expo was held at Tokyo Big Sight this year.  The event took place at the end of September in all 6 East Exhibition Halls.  The Expo is a collaboration between the Japan Travel Tourism Association (JTTA) and the Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA), combining JTTA's domestic Tabi Fair Japan tourism exhibition with JATA’s international "TABIHAKU" Travel Showcase. Twenty tour operators and two journalists from Canada were in attendance.
