EARTH CELEBRATION RETURNS

Sado Island welcomes the return of their annual Earth Celebration International Music Festival between the 22nd and 24th of August at Shiroyama Park. Every year, about five to ten thousand visitors come to see the festival, which includes the Shiroyama Concert, workshops, live events, a seminar, and the harbour market. Visitors are also encouraged to explore Sado Island itself, a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (GIAHS) and Geopark.

Held for the first time in 1988, Earth Celebration (EC) is an annual summer festival presented by the taiko performing arts ensemble, Kodo, and the people of Sado Island. Through the years, EC has brought numerous artists to Sado from around the world and it continues to be a world-wide celebration of the earth.

The first evening's concert will feature the entire Kodo group, from its youngest performers to its veterans. Kodo has invited two groups of guest artists for concerts on the second and third night. The first guest, BLUE TOKYO, is a group of highly-trained rhythmic gymnasts who bring refined artistic qualities to their performance. The second guest, DAZZLE, has captured a great deal of international attention for its creative dance style. Kodo hopes to bring a new flavor of performing arts to the Shiroyama Concerts by collaborating with powerful dancers from these two groups.

Visit the Earth Celebration website for details.
