CANADIAN VISITOR ARRIVALS
INCREASE IN FEBRUARY

We are pleased to report a 42.7% increase in the number of Canadian visitors to Japan in February this year. Japan welcomed 16,300 Canadians in February 2015, compared to 11,420 in February 2014.

HOKURIKU REGION WELCOMES A NEW BULLET TRAIN LINE

On March 14th, the West Japan Railway Company began operating the new Hokuriku Shinkansen. Going from Tokyo to Kanazawa in 2 hours and 28 minutes, the new line makes travelling to and from the Hokuriku region faster and simpler. The new line features the latest W7 / E7 carriage models with disability-friendly facilities and other services.

  • Kagayaki Express trains, the fastest option, run 10 round trips a day, with an additional 3 trains in operation until the end of June.
  • Hakutaka trains, with stops at all stations between Kanazawa and Joetsumyoko, make 15 round trips a day.
  • Tsurugi Shuttle trains, running between Kanazawa and Toyama, make 18 round trips a day.

JAPAN HOPPERS TRAVEL INFORMATION WEBSITE

Travel Vision Inc. has launched their new "Japan Hoppers" tourism website for global consumers. The site is available in the following 14 languages: Japanese, English, Korean, simplified & traditional Chinese, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Portuguese, Vietnamese, Thai, and Indonesian. Articles cover weather, transportation and telecommunications, with a particular focus on shopping and cuisine. A Muslim-dedicated website is also in the works and is to be released by the summer.

SONY CELEBRATES SAKURA SEASON

Between April 2nd and 30th, the Tourist Information Center in the Ginza Sony Building will be hosting cherry blossom-themed events. Visitors can take in the "Haru Koishi: Sakura Meguru Tabi (Longing for Spring: Journey in Search of Cherry Blossoms)" exhibition by photographer Kentaro Fukuda. The exhibition will be held on the 6th floor and visitors will be able to enjoy taking commemorative photos of themselves with photos from the exhibition displayed on a large screen. Cherry blossom face painting services using Miracle Paint will also be provided free of charge every Saturday and Sunday.
